Sheryl Marie Kock
March 10, 2018
Sheryl Marie Kock, 56, of Johnston, Iowa died Saturday, March 10, 2018 from injuries suffered in a car accident. She was a precious gift from God that was returned to his loving arms way too soon. Heaven gained an Angel with one of the biggest hearts imaginable.
She was the daughter of Anthony (Jim) and Bettie Nixon and grew up in Granger, Iowa. Sherry was a former EMT-Paramedic Specialist in Iowa and a RN since 1993. She worked as an ER Nurse at Mercy and Lutheran, was a Flight Nurse on Life Flight and a Homecare for IMMC, became a Case Manager for the Iowa National Guard, Humana and United Health Care. Her final years were spent as Director of Nursing for St. Gregory’s Retreat/Bridges of Iowa and Director of Provider Management with Opioid Clinical Management, Inc. Sherry was an advocate for people with the disease of addiction, and prevention, all in her daughter Brittany’s memory. She was truly the person who put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. Her heart was truly larger than life itself. When she looks down from heaven, she will be amazed to see the number of lives she touched. She leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 27 years, Robert Kock; mother, Bettie Nixon of Granger, Iowa; siblings, Debora (Rob) West of Des Moines, IA, Anthony (Colleen) Nixon of Westerville, OH, Rebecca Luloff of Sioux Falls, SD, Lawrence (Roz) Nixon of Conyers, GA, Edward Nixon (Sury) of Des Moines, IA, Roger (Sue) Kock of West Des Moines, IA, Frank (Sofie) Kock of Omaha, NE, David Kock of Indianola, IA, Elizabeth (Glenn) Griffin of Des Moines, IA, Gregory (Bonita) Kock of West Des Moines, IA, Sarah Pandullo of Clive, IA, numerous nieces and nephews and family members. Sheryl made such an impact on my life. She actually was the one to pickup on the fact that I was addicted to Oxycotin. It was through her pursuing me that made me come off it and am glad to say I have been free of opiates since 2013. She is my Angel and my Angel has gone on to heaven to see her beautiful daughter. Bob you and the family are in my prayers everyday. Fly high Sheryl and do your work in heaven.. Until we meet again dear friend.

We had a relationship that, still holds a special spot in my heart. We did so much, our families did so much, for both of us, & I have many great times that I will cherish till my days, on earth come to an end. One of the most fond memories from those days was, at Christmas. Your dad was announcing he had a special joke to deliver on Christmas, to me. He was always pulling some prank on me. He had always joked I was going to school to draw cartoons when , when I was actually taking drafting. What he didn't know, was that, I really loved drawing cartoons, so I drew one of him trying to use his recently purchased Wagner Power Painter, but had so much trouble getting it to work, like it should. When , he saw it that morning, he laughed until he was ready to fall out of his chair he always sat in, tears in his eyes from the joke of a gift. The family hadn't seen him like that for years, maybe never. My parents insisted you stayed in their house when you were so sick. It was something that would have never, been with us being single, it wasn't accepted. Although they knew there wasn't anyone to care for you, with your mom, & family all working. My mom didn't insist on most things but , she made it clear it would be the decision, because of how much she (& the rest of my family felt about you), & she talked about that for many years afterwards. I know you felt like it was imposing, she wouldn't have it any other way. You really had so much love, to give, & the biggest heart I've ever seen, & felt. You could light up a room, the minute you came in, with anyone, regardless of education, or social status. You were taken from all you touched in the time you spent here. Your determination, the mindset to conquer any problems in front of you, or those close to you, & your faith in God were the biggest assets you used to get things accomplished. I'm sad to think you are gone, & your family is mourning that hole in their hearts. You will be missed so much. I'm sure our paths will cross on the other side. God bless, & rest in peace.
