Service Details

Harold Petersen, 85, of Norwalk, went to be with our Heavenly Father May 25, 2008 from Parkinson’s disease and related ailments at Taylor House Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28th from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 29th at 10 am. Both will be held at the Norwalk United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Norwalk Cemetery. Luncheon will be held at the Methodist Church following interment.
Harold was born on May 21, 1923 in Lewis, Iowa to Chris and Claytie Petersen. He was one of three brothers. He served in the US Marine Corp during WWII in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946. During his time in the service he met the love of his life, Clara. He married Clara Newton on January 11, 1947 in Kansas. They are the parents of Susan Smith, David Petersen (Kathy) and Rita Windle, all of Norwalk. He worked at Borden Dairy for a number of years, and retired from Armstrong Tire in 1986. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Norwalk. He had a passion for John Deere Tractors and gardening, but his biggest love of all was his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, neighbor and to many, a hero in his own right. His sense of humor lives on in his family. The ones that are closest to him carry on his values.
Among those who will miss him are: his loving wife of 61 years, their three children, his brother Chris (Jo), brother-in-law G. Sam Newton (Dorothy), six grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
