Lois Oxford, 77, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008 at Mercy Hospital after surgery complications. Lois was born August 22, 1930 in Bethany, Missouri, the daughter of Willard and Goldie King.
After graduating from Mt. Moriah High School, Lois married Kenneth Oxford in 1948 and lived in Ridgeway, Missouri on a farm until they moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1953. Her greatest joy was traveling with her friends Evelyn and Esther to visit family, friends and seeing different parts of the country. They were known to the family as the “Golden Girls”. Throughout her life, Lois helped the elderly by being a companion and friend. Her grandchildren valued her wisdom and advice from simple recipes to parenting guidance. Lois’ husband, Ken, preceded her in death in 1987. Lois is survived by her sister, Helen Stevens, Cainsville, Missouri, along with two daughters, Delilia (Mike) Myers of Des Moines, Iowa; Marsha (Steve) Rhoten of The Villages, Florida; four grandchildren, Tricia Griebe of Des Moines, Iowa; Penny (Peter) Herman of Santa Rosa, California; Kenny (Emily) Myers of Burlington, Iowa; Shelly Myers of Des Moines, Iowa and 12 great grandchildren.
