Matthew Mark Drew

Matthew Mark Drew, 72, died at home on Sunday, February 4, 2018. He was born March 21, 1945 to Cloyde Dwain and Mary Katherine (McVey) Drew in Des Moines.
Matthew served in the Air Force, in Texas, right out of high school. He then returned to Iowa and got a job in the banking industry.
Matthew retired from Wells Fargo after 35+ years of service. He started when the bank was known as Iowa Des Moines National Bank. He continued working during the bank consolidations in which the bank became Norwest. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which eventually led him to go on disability prior to the bank becoming Wells Fargo. Once on disability, he focused his attention on other interests, including Old Time Radio, World Band Radio, Computing and occasionally reading a good book. Matthew was active in social and humanitarian causes his whole life.
Matthew was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Marie Drew; and is survived by his sons, David, Scott, and A J; and daughter Love Beth Drew; as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

We are so sorry hearing about Mark. We knew Mark when we attended Calvary Church on Union St. when we were kids. Mark enjoyed playing in the kiddy band in the church bsmt. with Mrs Haag directing. Dwayne and Ken lit the candles every Sunday. Condolences to Mark's children and grandchildren.

Sorry for your loss. Mark was a member of Veteran's For Peace Chapter #163 here in Des Moines. "Veteran's working together for peace & justice through nonviolence". May he now be at peace.

Am so sorry for the loss of both Mark and Kathy. I was a neighbor for about 20 years. Always enjoyed visiting with them and sharing gardening news. May they both Rest In Peace.
