Kathryn “Katie” BrüineKool Crewse, 105, of Scottish Rite Park went to her Lord on April 7, 2008. Services will be at 11:00AM, Thursday, April 10 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. A reception will be held at the Scottish Rite Park Dining area for family and friends following interment.
“Katie” was born to a Dutch family in Pella, Iowa, on April 2, 1903. Katie spent the winters in Phoenix with her eldest daughter LaVona, summered in Minnesota, but always called Des Moines home with her youngest daughter Ramona. Katie, working side by side with her husband Herb owned the American Plating Company and the Artistic Manufacturing Company in her career years. Katie was a long time member of Grant Park Christian Church and Staves United Methodist Church. Katie was also proud of her long time membership of the Order of the Eastern Star. Katie was a generous community contributor, to be remembered for her wonderful hospitality, kindness and a deep compassion for those she encountered in her life.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her daughters, LaVona and Ramona; two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. She is survived by her grandchildren Dana Campbell Saylor and Rhonda McHardy of Phoenix, Arizona, Sandy Strzyzykowski of Benton Harbor, Michigan, James G. Romar of Des Moines, Iowa and Darwin Lewis of Chicago, Illinois.
The family will greet family and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. before the service.
