Marty Lynn Cardines
October 27, 2017
Marty Lynn Cardines, 70, was born August 8, 1947 in Des Moines to Marcus and Vivian Cardines. He passed away peacefully, Friday, October 27, 2017.
Marty was a man of strong faith - he loved his bible and living his life the way of the Lord. Marty was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry “Black Lions.” For his bravery, Marty was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V Device & 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, and Marksman Badge for auto rifle, machine gun, and rifle.
Marty was a jack of all trades and could fix absolutely anything. He would lend a helping hand at the drop of a hat – he would give you his last dollar and would never expect anything in return. Marty always enjoyed his outings to Prairie Meadows. Above all else, Marty enjoyed spending time joking with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren…he was the trunk to the family tree and will be deeply missed by all of those blessed to have known him.
Marty is survived by his wife, Vicky Cardines; daughters, Missy, Dawn, Melissa and Haley (Tyrae); sons, Johnny (Deb) and Marty II; grandchildren, Levi (Baylee), Cori, Jami, Kailee, Kami, Kendra and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Marty III, Emily, Phillip, Robert, Tyzon, RyLynn, Keighlynn and Greighson; siblings, Pamela, Renee (John), Denise (Mike), Freddy (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Diane (Clyde) Dare and Vickie (Ned) Osborne.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. at Avon Lake Clubhouse, 5701 SE 66th Place in Avon Lake, IA.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his wife, Vicky in loving memory of Marty.

Vicki and family. I am sorry for the loss of Marty. We all went back a long ways, good memories to think about. He will be missed by everyone he came in touch with. A very happy, big hearted man. They broke the mold after him. I was very glad to have him and all of his family as friends. I'm sure he's dancing with the angels. Miss you Marty....

Marty was our neighbor, when we lived in the duplex on 10th. He was a great man and he watched over my family, like we was his own. He was our soul brother, he will truly be missed. The Southside has truly lost a hero. Our condolences to the Cardines family.
