Mary Jane Nelson, 87, died, Monday, February 18, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital after an extended illness. Mary was the daughter of Ray and Vera Burnett, and was born in Des Moines, Iowa.
She graduated from East High School in 1939. She was the widow of Eldon E. (Gene) Nelson. Mary was employed until her retirement at Farmland Insurance Company. She loved country music, cross stitching and her family. She won numerous awards at the Iowa State Fair craft show for her hand made work.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Jane Rae Nissen and her husband, Chuck of Tampa, FL, and Janene Kling and her husband, Mark of Bondurant, Iowa; one son, Elden E. (Gene) Nelson II and wife, Judy of Orangeburg, S.C.; seven grandchildren and nine great granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Teater.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ankeny. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Sorry could not attend, I will miss you greatly. My first image upon hearing of your death was you dancing in heaven with grandpa. You will be greatly missed and always remembered. Chance will know what a wonderful grandmother you were. Rest in peace. I love you.
