Virginia F. Witt
September 14, 2017
Virginia Frances Witt of Des Moines, daughter of Reynold Christopher Oberg and Mary Ann (Christensen) Oberg, was born August 18, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away on September 14, 2017, at the age of 94 years.
Virginia graduated from East High School in Des Moines and as a young adult she enjoyed dancing and was a vocalist and electric guitarist with Jack Elliott and His Music. Virginia met the love of her life, Arthur, in 1943 while both worked at the ordnance plant during WWII, and they married in 1946. In 1950, she began working at Meredith Publishing as a bindery employee and retired from there in 1986. During retirement she and Art traveled the country in their motorhome, enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time in Grove, Oklahoma. After Art's passing in 2002, Virginia learned to play the organ and was a wonderful quilter and member of the Carlisle Quilters Group. A loving mother, wife and friend, she will be remembered for her pleasant nature, sense of humor, desire to try new things, and her lemon cake with homemade candy frosting was always a hit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur, son, Steven Witt, daughter, Bobbi McAninch and sister, Anita Hudson.
Virginia is survived by daughters: Vicki (Ed) Gooch of Ankeny, Sherry Witt (Fred Johnson) of Des Moines; five grandchildren: Michael Gooch, Kevin Gooch, Susan Hunter, James Hunter and Charesa Zahlen; 5 great grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and two nephews as well as other cherished relatives, friends and co-workers.
A casual Celebration of Life Gathering for both Virginia and Arthur will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m., with a Time of Sharing at 4 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UnityPoint Hospice.

Vicky & Sherry,
So very sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She was a great friend to mom and will be missed.
She and mom made tough canasta players and we will miss not playing with the two of them.
