Sandra Lee Littleton, age 67, passed away peacefully at Kavanagh House on Friday, September 1, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in New York City on May 21,1950 and raised in Wilmette, Illinois. Sandra graduated with a nursing degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. In 1976, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Sandra took pride and thrived working as an Operating Room Nurse throughout her entire career at various hospitals. Her final seventeen years, prior to her retirement in 2012, were with the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family was everything to Sandra and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She spent much of her free time playing with, teaching and watching them grow. She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she participated in both the singing and bell choirs. Sandra loved her dogs, enjoyed knitting and counted cross-stitch; as well as, spending time at the family cabin in Minnesota. With an interest in historic preservation, she partnered in restoring two Victorian homes in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines from the 1970’s thru the 1990’s.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Kevin Littleton; children, Eric (Tykie) Poggemann, Katie (Dan) Cleereman, and Drew Poggemann; step-daughter, Sara (Chris) Darr; grandchildren, Jayden Kelling, Remington Poggemann, Lillian Cleereman, a grandson on the way, Hailey Darr, Maci Darr; brother, Craig (Marilynn) Collins; first husband and father of her children, Russell Poggemann; and a host of other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Elloise Collins.

There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1025 28th Street, West Des Moines. A private family burial will take place at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date.
