Jeffrey Charles Patzner

Jeffrey Charles Patzner, 56, of Urbandale passed away at his home on August 21, 2017. He was born on July 25, 1961 to Joseph and Jean Patzner.
Jeff graduated from Sigourney High School in 1980. He graduated from Indian Hills with an AAS in Computer Science in 1982. He had an accomplished career in Software Engineering and was instrumental in developing several applications for the life insurance division of Farm Bureau in West Des Moines, IA. Jeff was recognized in the 2010 Information Week 500 Application Essay for the Simple Term Automated Underwriting System. He was also instrumental in the development of an e-App paperless system.
Jeff was an avid Hawkeyes fan and a football season ticket holder for many years. During football and basketball seasons, you would find The Patzner family cheering together for the Hawkeyes. Jeff was also a NASCAR fan who followed Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He and his boys had the opportunity to attend the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis.
Jeff’s first love was his family and friends. To know Jeff was to love him. He enjoyed fishing, biking, grilling, traveling, local parks, and anything that he could do outdoors.
He was an amazing uncle to his six nieces and nephews and was given the loving name “Unkie Jeff” and “Monkey Jeff”.
Jeff is survived by his two sons, Jesse (Chrissy) of Urbandale, Scott (Allie) of Ottumwa, and their mother, Cheri Estes; his parents, Joseph and Jean Patzner of Sigourney; three brothers and a sister, Mitch (Patty) of Dubuque, Marla Fromm (Pete) of Ankeny, Rick (TJ) of Urbandale, and Greg of Seattle, WA; nieces and nephews, Nathan and Tyler Fromm of Ankeny, Luke Patzner of Urbandale, Brianna, CJ and Alayna Davis of Lee’s Summit, MO.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 27 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA and the funeral service on Monday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines.

Sincere sympathies. Jeff and I were editors of the yearbook our senior (?) year, and he was such a great guy. We shared lots of laughs together. Lots of great memories. Will be thinking of all of you. So very sorry.

Jeff was like a brother to me growing up and although I haven't seen him in quite some time I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. I have lots of memories of him as ornery kids and the whole Patzner clan. My deepest sympathy to you all. Much love, Dana Richardson

Jackie worked with Jeff at Farm Bureau for many years. He was a good friend and he will be missed, especially at our social functions. We could always count on him for a lot of laughs. Condolences to his family.
