Ronald G Bird

Ron Bird Sr., 70, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He was born November 11, 1937 to Lucille and Victor Bird.
Ron worked as the director of the Averill House Men’s Treatment Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for ten years. He was also the Assistant Director of the Door of Faith Missions for five years. He then founded and directed The Harbor of Hope and worked there 18 years until his retirement.
Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gwen; children, Ron Bird Jr., Tim Bird, Terry (Pete) Brent, and Cindy Bird; six grandchildren, Tim, Tony, Megan, David, Hawley, and Savannah; one great grandchild, Airam; and brother, Alan Bird. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Bird.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, Altoona; burial will follow at the Griffis Cemetery in Prairie City. Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
