Roger LaFary
July 22, 2017
Roger David LaFary was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend to all. He passed away July 22, 2017 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa. His last words were of love for his family.
Roger was born to Betty and Harold LaFary on January 13, 1945. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Michael.
Roger grew up on the Eastside of Des Moines and graduated from East High School in January of 1963. He enlisted in the Army
February 21, 1963 with some of his High School buddies and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge October 23, 1965. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Marksman Rifle & Vietnam Service Award medals during his service. He also earned medals for Vietnam Campaign and Presidential unit Citation for Vietnam Vets. Duty, decency, reliability, honor and respect were qualities he practiced every day of his life.
Roger married the love of his life, Kris, March 4, 1989. She brought to their marriage four young boys who also became
Roger’s boys. He supported and took pride in their children. He cheered them on in all of their activities, whether it was baseball, debate, business ventures, or whatever their interests were. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, music and travel. Roger & Kris took several Rock ‘N Roll cruises where they danced the night away.
Heaven has received a wonderful man added to its guardian angel squad. He is gone forever and that makes all who knew him sad. Remembering him will always give them peace. Left to cherish his memory are wife Kris, sons Ernie Rose (Krysta), Dave Stout, Rob Stout (Carrie), and Joe Stout; Grandchildren Myah Stout, Hannah Livingston, Spencer Stout, Brody Stout and Maddux Stout. Also surviving is sister Leila Heck, brother Dale LaFary, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow services at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Should you wish to make a Memorial contribution, checks should be made payable to Iowa Veterans Cemetery in support of our military. Funds are used to purchase flags for Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Wreaths across America.
The family asks you to spend time with your children and grandchildren, dance to the music with your loved ones and make a Toast to enduring friendship lifelong and beyond. This is what Roger would wish.
