Ron Shepherd

Ronald Ray Shepherd was born September 5, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Mern and Annabelle (Barclay) Shepherd. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the age of 75.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2017, also at Hamilton’s. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

Ron loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He loved traveling and collecting. Some of his favorite pastimes included attending auctions, going to casinos, especially playing black jack in Las Vegas, and watching westerns.

Ron is survived by his sister, Sherrie Shepherd Vilatus; brother, Michael (Dollar) Shepherd; children, Mern Shepherd (Judy), Allen Shepherd (Lanita), Andrea Shepherd (Carl Johnson), Melody Davis (Jerry Nall), and John Gulans; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delores Cadsey; Dewey (godson); and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Shepherd; parents, Ann and Mern Shepherd Sr.; brothers, Mern (Bubby) Shepherd and Jack Shepherd; brother-in-law, Bill Vilatus; sister-in-law, Cherry Shepherd; son-in-law, Bobby Davis; and grandchild, Christina Wade.
