Florence Long

Florence Long, age 94, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Florence was born December 14, 1922, in Paola, Kansas, to Herbert Grundy Carruthers and Agnes Honeyman. She was a resident of The Gardens at Luther Park where she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Florence loved her family above all else. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and square dancing and was a member of the National Square Dance Convention.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Larry) Rogers and Nettie Alice (Chuck) Punelli; grandchildren, Marcie (Brian) McNary, Gavin (Kristin) Rogers, Danyell Punelli, Raffaela (Patrick) Vignaroli, and Victoria (Craig) Bissen; great-grandchildren, Brody Rogers, Malachy McNary, Lily LeMire, Lucy LeMire, Roman Vignaroli, Levia Bissen, and Coen Bissen; and her siblings, Jean Dempsey, Vera Williams, and George Martz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Grundy Carruthers and Agnes Honeyman; husband, Loren E. Long; and her son, Loren Richard Long.

There will be a celebration of her life at The Gardens at Luther Park, 2910 E 16th St, Des Moines, IA 50316, on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.
