James Johnson, Sr.

James E. Johnson, Sr., 72, passed away at his home Tuesday, January 1, 2008. A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Per his wishes, his body will be cremated following the visitation and his cremated remains will be interred in San Diego, CA with his mother.
James was born March 10, 1935 in Stamps, AR to Paul and Sally Mae (Gaither) Johnson. He was raised in San Diego, CA and Des Moines. James proudly served in the Marine Corp. in Korea and Vietnam. He worked at the VA Hospital, Rock Island Motor Transit, Clay Brick Yard and other various jobs in the Des Moines area.
Left to mourn are his wife of 40 years, Joann; four children, James Jr., Dana, Cheryl (Mike) Ritchie and Dawn all of Des Moines; sisters, Jessie Martin and Liz (Carl) Limerick both of San Diego, CA, Mattie Cutwright, Thresser Edward-Thomas and Mary Dean (Sylvester) McCracken all of Des Moines; brother, J.D. Johnson of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who were all special to Uncle James. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Jr.; and his son, Byron Glenn.
