Duane Joseph Harris, age 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.

Duane was born October 20, 1932, in Webster, Iowa, to George and Ida (Van Dee) Harris. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Mercy Hospital in the maintenance department for 48 years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Duane is survived by his wife of 57 years, Henrietta, son, Duane (Shannon) Harris, grandchildren, Heatherlynn Hendrickson, Marietta Kay Harris, Cassandra Marie Harris, Alexzander Allen Joseph Harris, and Chloe Kathryn Harris, and great-grandchildren, Nova Jean Palmer, Alison Palmer, Maximus Palmer, and Willow Angela Noel Berry.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Hendrickson and his parents.

A visitation will occur 12 p.m. – 3p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army at 3p.m. following the visitation.
