Doris was born December 24, 1928, in Runnells, Iowa, to Glen and Georgia (Wilson) McClaflin. First and foremost in her life was family. She was the beloved matriarch of not only her children, but her younger siblings as well. At age 17, she began working for Northwestern Bell and continued her career with them until her retirement as an executive secretary in 1984 at age 55. She was last employed as a secretary for the State of Iowa Legislature.
Doris enjoyed traveling with her husband, Thomas, and tending her rose gardens. She devoted years to her passion of genealogy research, tracing her family tree back to the 1600s. She will be remembered for her love of family and as an excellent cook.
Doris is survived by her children, Elaine Maynard, Thomas W. Burford (Trudy), and Lori Fousek (Bryan); siblings, Dean McClaflin, Romona Porter, Frances King, James McClaflin, Paul McClaflin and Rex McClaflin; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Michael Maynard, Thomas Ryan Burford, Anna Burford, Evan Fousek and Breanna Fousek; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Richard Burford, and her brothers, John McClaflin and William McClaflin.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.

I knew and loved my Aunt Doris
my whole life. She was a kind and gentle person who brought light and laughter to us all. We are so sorry to lose her as she carried the pioneer spirit of the McClaflin, Burford and Eaton Families.

For many years Doris was my husband's secretary at Northwestern Bell. They had a great relationship as Ed not only appreciated her competence but considered her a personal friend. They went through some interesting times together. Doris was a very thoughtful person, and I know she will be missed by her friends and family.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Doris' family. I (Alexa) am the daughter of Matt and Lynn Woody. Lynn Woody is Hubert and Frieda Burford's daughter. I remember how sweet and kind both Doris and Thomas were to me and my cousins when we were growing up. We would see them occasionally for large family get togethers, and Doris was always so welcoming and inclusive of us. What a beautiful and kind person she was. She will be missed and remembered by many.
