Maxine E. Gish

Maxine E. Gish, 86, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Montpelier Cemetery in Patterson, Iowa.

Maxine was born September 5, 1930, in Winterset, Iowa, to Orie and Dona Schermerhorn. At a young age, she moved to Des Moines where she spent the rest of her life. She married James S. Gish and they were blessed with ten children. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Robison, Newton (Linda), Thomas (Gail), Sue (Steve) Sziber, John, Lola, Marolyn (Alex) Diaz, Bill, and JoAnn (Larry) Williams. She is also survived by her brother, Burl (Mary Anne) Schermerhorn, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine was primarily a homemaker and devoted her life to family and home. She enjoyed sewing, coloring, flower gardening, and spending time with her family.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Orie and Dona Schermerhorn, husband, James, daughter, Connie, and six brothers and sisters.
