Michael Loren Jacobsen

Michael Loren Jacobsen, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 15 at his home. Services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation from 12 to 2:00 p.m. and the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
Michael was born July 3, 1969 in Omaha, NE to Loren and Janis Jacobsen. The family moved to Des Moines when Michael was 6 years old. He graduated from Valley High School in 1987 and then attended DMACC and the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He moved to Tucson, AZ where he met his future wife, Willow in 1998. The couple moved to Des Moines and were married February 9, 2002. Michael worked as an Electrician for Commonwealth Electric and was a member of IBEW Local 347.
In his free time, Michael enjoyed various activities. His family owned and raced horses at Prairie Meadows, he cheered the Chicago Cubs and the Nebraska Huskers with his children, and always had weekly movie nights with his family. Another favorite family activity was frequenting various amusement parks.
Michael is survived by his wife, Willow; children, Collin and Marin Jacobsen; his parents, Loren and Janis Jacobsen; siblings, David (Cari) Jacobsen and Amy (Jeff) Miller; nephews, Benjamin and Matthew Miller; sister-in-law, Sable (BJ) Joseph; parents-in-law, George and Josefa Downs; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for ours... Mike was a great anchor (regardless of how much time went by between visits), I will always remember our friendship and his easy spirit. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. Peace.

It was so incredibly sad to hear of Mike's passing. Thoughts and Prayers for you Willow, Collin and Marin, Loren, Janis, Dave, and Amy. Mike's friendship with all of us was love in its genuine form. His kindness and generosity was authentic and unwavering and Mike's always caring soul changed lives for the better. Peace and Love for all of you in this difficult time.

Willow - from what I understand this poem is the way your husband lived his life. Conner admired Collin's relationship with his dad. When he shared the sad news with me earlier this week, that was the first thing he told me.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Jacobsen family. I was shocked to hear about the loss of Mike. While I hadn't seen him for many years, this terrible news brought back a lot of great memories of him. He will be greatly missed.
