Sandra "Sally" Louise Bowman

Sandra “Sally” Louise Bowman, 81, of West Des Moines, IA, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, from cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family when she died, and is now at everlasting peace.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:30 AM at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines. Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Sally was born in Osceola, IA, to Frank Marvin and Mildred (Horton) Gibson on June 26, 1935. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1958 and started her teaching career in Cedar Rapids. She lived in Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Des Moines, Urbandale and West Des Moines where she raised her four children and built her life surrounded by dear friends.
Sally taught second grade at Waukee Elementary School for almost 30 years. She was a beloved teacher, mentor and friend. She was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, PEO and Delta Delta Delta sorority.
She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed precious time with family and friends, as well as reading, playing bridge, shopping, traveling and of course getting her hair done!
She is already dearly missed by her children, Michael Bowman, Kimberly Bowman (Steve Wendt), Jeffrey (Michelle) Bowman, and Jennifer (Marlo) Adams; her grandchildren, Michela, Ryan and Samantha Bowman; Mason, Madison and Samuel Adams; and Jedidiah Bowman; great-grandson, Samson Hookstra; and her brother, F. Daniel Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Susanna G. Sickinger.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. My daughter had Sally as a teacher in second grade. Valerie loved Sally. One of her favorite teachers. Sally was always kind and helpful to everyone. Full of love. Many fond memories.

A beautiful star, our family LOVED this lady!!!! We were blessed as she taught our oldest son, Alex and prior to him his auntie, Bridget. Sally was quite the gem and i feel honored to have known her.

My son was fortunate to have Sally as a second grade teacher. He was and is a big Hawkeyes fan so he loved Mrs. Bowman. She was a friend to all parents and always had a smile on her face.
