David Eugene Murray, 77, passed away February 3, 2017 at Unity Point Hospice Taylor House.
David was born August 28, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Eupha and Jesse Murray. David married Margaret “Maggie” (Cipale) in 1974. The couple lived in Des Moines until 1988, when they relocated to Indianola. He retired from The US Postal Service after 26 years. Following his retirement he worked at the Blood Center of Iowa.
David was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and spending time with his family and especially his grandkids.
David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Maggie; son, Chad (Samantha) Murray; daughters, Dawn (Kenneth) Braden and Sheryl Murray; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Mary), Ted (Elaine), Tom (Pat), Mary (Jerry) Brown, Waneta Rager, Barbara (Wayne) Baldus, Mae (Jimmy) Barker, and Betty Eagle; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his sons, Robert Murray and John Adams as well as 3 brothers, Jesse, Bill and Jimmy and sister, Mina.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue. The family will greet friends Wednesday, February 8th from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 5 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family in loving memory of David.
The family wishes to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Greg Berry, Lindsay Prendagast, Christina, Erin, Dr. Matthew Trump and staff; Dr. Dan Buroker and staff; Dr. Nath and staff at Iowa Cardiology; Iowa Lutheran staff for their love and support and Dr. Lisa Veach.

Thank you all for your kind words towards my husband. He was a very kind hearted, giving man. Although he left, us with many loving memories...loosing such a loving man is one of the hardest things I have had to face. Rest in peace my love and someday we will be together. Love you more, your loving wife

Our deepest sympathies go out to you Maggie and the kids. Don has fond memories of Dave. From pouring cement for your drive to being stuck on off ramp in snow storm with post office tractor trailers. Such a good man and great co-worker. May good memories help ease the pain of your loss.
