Carmen Delia Ortiz

Carmen Delia Ortiz was born September 30, 1938 in Cayey, Puerto Rico to Antonio and Carmen (Velazquez) Santiago.

She married Flor Ortiz and together they raised five children: Carmen, Luz, Aida, Flor, and Maria. Carmen always had a big genuine smile on her face. She was a very happy and outgoing person and she spread love everywhere she went. She loved being the center of attention and enjoyed the holidays and any kind of celebration. She enjoyed playing cards and writing in books.

Carmen passed away peacefully Friday, January 6, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. She was 78 years old.

Public visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy, West Des Moines. There will be a second visitation time from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m., all at Hamilton’s. Carmen will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery following the service.

Carmen is survived by her children, Carmen R. Figueroa, Luz N. Ortiz, Aida E. Ortiz, Flor A. Ortiz, and Maria Martinez, 16 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Carmen Santiago and her husband, Flor Ortiz.
