Dorothy was born April 11, 1926 in Fairfield, Iowa to William and Ava Hartman. She grew up in Fairfield and graduated from high school in 1944. She was very active in band, playing the xylophone and she played the piano for many different occasions. Dorothy was a Worthy Advisor in the Rainbow Club where she received the Grand Cross of Colors. She then attended Parson’s College in Fairfield where she received her BA. She was selected to appear in the 1947-1948 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was a member of the sorority Elsevier where she met her future husband of 65 years, Felix Augspurger. They were married in 1951 and had three children.

Dorothy taught at Roosevelt and Logan grade school in Fairfield. In 1961, the family moved to Des Moines where she continued her teaching career at Maple Grove Elementary and Love Joy Elementary, retiring in 1987. After retirement she and Felix spent many months traveling the country and spending their winters in Texas. Dorothy was the hardest working and sweetest woman we’ve known. She was dedicated to her family and students. All who knew her couldn’t help but love and admire her. She will be missed!!!
