Service Details

Wilbur Adair, 85, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 24th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Friday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
Wilbur was born March 11, 1922 in Leon, IA to Jess and Ella (Martindale) Adair. After his high school graduation, marriage to Alice and birth of their first daughter, Wilbur moved his family to Port Huron, MI to work in a magnesium plant during WW II. Shortly thereafter he served in the Army Air Force. After his discharge, he returned to Des Moines and became a finished carpenter with Local #106 (61 years), mainly putting in acoustical ceilings and computer floors in schools and businesses throughout the state. During that time he was also a partner in an acoustical business with the Frank Brothers in Sioux City.
Wilbur was an avid hunter and fisherman and in later years enjoyed working on his lawn and in his garden spending time with his family and friends and relaxing in his recliner with his cat Callie.
Wilbur is survived by three daughters, Barbara Black (Byron), Cheryl Borgerson and Beverly Adair (Denny Overdorf); granddaughter, Hope Borgerson (Frank Scavo); and great grandchildren Joshua Guthrie, Amanda Courter and Crystal Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Marie (2002) and grandsons Jack, David and Randy.
