Fran Thompson
September 17, 2016
Fran Thompson, 76, passed away September 17, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston with loved ones at her side. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Cumming, with seating provided.
Fran was born May 14, 1940 to Doris (Tyler) and Bernard Burch in Carney, IA.
She is survived by her children, Robert Thompson, Mary (Rick) Overton, Steve (Maria) Thompson, Mark Thompson and David (Gena) Thompson; her siblings, Robert (Alice) Burch, Ruth Peacock, Wayne Burch, Shirley Burch, Jerry Burch, and Joseph (Margaret) Burch; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Thompson; and 7 siblings.
Fran was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her focus in life was her faith and her family. Always finding the best in anyone she met, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the second mother to many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her generosity, while sometimes limited by resources, was never limited by her heart. Fran’s love knew no conditions and she shared that love unselfishly. She will be missed tremendously.
A luncheon will be held following the graveside services at:
Sacred Heart Parrish Center
1627 Grand Avenue
West Des Moines, IA 50265
Please join us in the celebration of Fran’s life regardless of graveside services attendance.

She always seemed to have just the right balance of kindness and fire that made being around her so enjoyable. Whether she was cooing at a baby or yelling at her sons, it was fun to be there.

I will miss her so much. She was always such a huge part of my life. I will never forget her voice, her laughter, her wisdom or her love.
