Deacon Curtis Jerald Jackson, 89, was born May 2, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Curtis L. Jackson and Margaret M. Hayes. He was the second of five children. Curtis passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School Street, Des Moines. Curtis will be laid to rest Monday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Curtis graduated from Tech High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War. Upon returning from the war, Curtis was employed at Frye Mfg. Co. as a welder and also at the Solar Plant. He retired from John Deere as a manager in 1982.

Curtis married Doris Ewing and together they raised Sharon, Jimmy, and Curtie. Curtis was an ordained Deacon and loved his church. He was also a member of the Men’s Fellowship Chorus and loved playing his harmonica on every song. His other passion was bowling and he belonged to the Des Moines Road Runners Guild for many years.

Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his only sister, Zanna Brown of Cleveland, OH; his daughters, Sharon Jackson of Rochester Hills, MI and Curtie Joi Davis of Las Vegas, NV; three granddaughters, Lia Rogers (John) of Sicklerville, NJ, Larae Heath (Mike) of Troy, MI, and Tylee Jackson (Kenya Brown) of Las Vegas, NV; three great-grandchildren, Taylar, Cameron, and Sydney; one great-great-grandson, Brandon II; the love of his life Juanita Payton, and her son, Nicky; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

Preceding him in death are both his parents; his first wife, Doris Jackson; his second wife, Ethel Jackson; his brothers, Landis, Marvin, and Lawrence; his son, Jimmy; and his grandchildren, Paul Brown and Nia Strother.
