Surrounded by family, Barbara J. Coleman, 88, left this earth on July 14, 2016. Barbara was born on June 12, 1928 in Des Moines, IA. She attended East High School and worked for Hawkeye Security Insurance after graduation. She married James A. Coleman in his parents' home in 1948. James was owner and operator of Standard Marble and Tile, which Barbara helped him run from their home in Chautauqua Park. They were married for 44 years and raised a wonderful family together. Barbara later joined Asgrow Seed Company and retired in 1992.

Barbara and her family were members of the former First Evangelical United Brethren Church. She was active in the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile where she served as the "queen" twice. She and her husband were also members of Acanthus Masonic Lodge. Barbara’s years of involvement in these organizations raised funds for the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital and burn unit.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Mabel Ackors; husband, James A. Coleman; two brothers, Bill Marshall and Ron Marshall; and three sisters, Joy Puckett, Mary Tolley and Karen Luing.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Fountain West Care Center, where she lived the last 4 years of her life, as well as Unity Point Hospice, who provided excellent care. A private funeral and burial have been arranged.
