Luke Anderson
March 27, 2016
Luke Thomas Anderson, 16, of Waukee, Iowa, died at his home on March 27, 2016. He was the beloved son of Andrew and Karen Anderson and brother of Meghan Anderson.
He was born on June 17, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived his entire life in Des Moines, Clive and Waukee. He loved his community and saw no good reason to travel, except for a good snowboarding trip to the Colorado Rockies. He felt that we had all that was needed right here in the metro and planned to live his life here.
Luke attended the Waukee Schools for most of his life and attended high school at Dowling Catholic High School and Waukee High School. He had many dear friends, good teachers and supportive coaches from both schools, and he considered himself a Warrior and a Maroon.
Luke was a young man of many passions and had a great sense of humor. He was in constant motion. He loved his family, his pets Otis and Kiki, his Band of Brothers (a/k/a the “broke boys”), his many friends and his orange Ford Mustang, “Veronica.” He loved the outdoors where he could snowboard, wakeboard, ride his dirt bike and go “creekin” in the streams near his home. He played baseball, football and basketball with several teams during his life and learned many lessons from his coaches and teammates. Luke was always a champion of the underdog from his earliest days. He would want all his family, friends and his Band of Brothers to know that they were the light of his life and helped him along his way. He loved them very much and would want them to live a full life of activity and laughter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents Andrew and Karen Anderson, his sister Meghan Anderson, both sets of grandparents Albert and Marilyn Anderson of Decorah, Iowa and Harold and Nancy Staves of Tucson, Arizona, his uncles and aunts Eric and Alex Anderson of Virginia, Tom Staves of Arizona, Jason Staves of Dubuque, and Pam Bingham of Arizona, and many extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 5 to 7 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway at 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 1, at 11 am at Lutheran Church of Hope at 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines. A lunch will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial gifts to Waukee YMCA Scholarship Fund or the Waukee Community School Foundation.

Andy and Family......................Nothing I can say will ease your pain. I am so very sorry you've lost your son. I've concluded that there's no greater pain on this earth, than losing a child. I pray you feel His presence of peace, comfort and hope as you walk through these hard days.

Dear Andy and family - please forgive the informality of an electronic letter however this is all so sudden that I thought a rapid note might be of some modest comfort. You have my deepest sympathy upon the sudden death of Luke. His loss is particularly poignant if, as his obituary notes, he was a "champion of the underdog", a quality too much lacking in today's day and age. Cherish the memories of the time you did spend with Luke in this world.
My wife Maggie and my colleagues at Kaye Scholer and Bonobo Hope, join in this heartfelt expression of condolence upon Luke's passing.
Sincerely,
Bill Zifchak

To the hearts of the Anderson family from the Barr family, if there is one word for Luke it is magnify, because whether it was revealed through his smile - his mind was creating fun and Luke intensified fun in the lives of his friends. There is great pain as hearts are squeezed by the loss. JB loved Luke and I can't count the times we heard "can I go to Luke's"... Luke was a first pick on JB's team. Thank you for your love, and know that we love you and will continue to pray for you that day by day may the squeeze on your hearts turn to hugs and then to joy as we celebrate the gift we received in Luke. Strength and Courage in Christ Jesus.
