DaWayne Payne

DaWayne Leonard Payne, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines on Saturday, March 26, 2016 with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the funeral service at 2:30 p.m.

DaWayne was born July 21, 1937 in Estherville, IA, the son of Robert and Gladys (Phillips) Payne. He was a caring, giving man who would do anything for his family and friends. DaWayne married Connie Helm on July 23, 1955. He grew up on a family farm and kept farm animals all his life. He was a hardworking man, a talented carpenter, and was self-employed as a siding applicator. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Cops, and carpentry and cooking shows. DaWayne loved John Wayne movies and westerns. He was a proud Republican, enjoyed going to auctions, and listening to WHO Radio.

Those left to cherish DaWayne’s memory include his children, Cecil D. Payne (Linda), Rebecca J. Payne Haifley (Bill), and Robert L. Payne (Patricia); daughter-in-law, Beverly Payne; grandchildren, Angela L. Payne, Jennifer M. Payne Sanderman, Wendy L. Payne, Stephanie L. Payne Desotel, Robert D. Payne, Robert L. Payne, Lisa M. Haifley Zaiger, Adam D. Payne, Melanie R. Haifley Sanchez, and Ashley C. Payne; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and siblings, Arlene E. Payne Lovell, Lorus J. Payne Fillman, Eugene Payne, and Eva Jane Payne Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lester Payne and Gladys Mabel Phillips; wife, Connie Payne; son, Steve L. Payne; great-granddaughter, Kimberly Payne.
