Betty June White

Betty June White, 79, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Betty was born June 1, 1936 in Ollie, Iowa to Lyle Henry and Myrtle Louise (Estes) Stanbrough. She grew up in southeast Iowa and had lived in Norwalk for the past 30 years where she made her home. Betty worked for the Norwalk Manor, Norwalk High School, Oviatt Elementary School, and Regency Care Center all as a Dietician. She retired from her work in 1997.

In her retirement she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. BINGO was her favorite past time, and she was good at it! Shopping was a perfect way for Betty to spend the day, followed by dining out with friends and family.


Betty is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, George; children, Richard (Joyce) White, Brenda (Jim) Steinke, Roger (Mary) White, and Beverly (Jim) Scott; sister, Ines Wilson; grandchildren, Ian (Linda), Mashawny, Lucas, Thaddeus, Sean, Joshua, Kiersten, David (Nickole), Krystal (Eric), Ryan, James (Emily), Nicholas, and Briana; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Kaylee, Lane, Jack, and Noah; and a host of extended family and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Edith.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 24, 2016 at Martensdale Community Church, 3953 Hoover Street, Prole, Iowa. Betty will be laid to rest at Grant Cemetery in Rome, Iowa on Friday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m.
