Richard Lee Glaza “Gus” was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on November 9, 1934, and passed away peacefully at Carlisle Care Center on March 18, 2016.

He grew up in the Iowa Falls/Waterloo area, entering the U.S. Army after graduation. Upon leaving the service he operated toy stores and hobby shops in the Waterloo and Des Moines area. He was a member of the Commission for the Blind, for which he managed both Sears and Capitol Building Cafeterias. He also worked for Mutual of Omaha.

Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy and their daughter, Angela Gerdes; and his two sons from a previous marriage, Michael (Annette) Glaza and David (Carol) Glaza; as well as five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his beloved pets.

Services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. He will then be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at 12:30 p.m.
