Rodger M. Steinkamp, 52, passed away March 17, 2016. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the service at 11:30 a.m. Family will greet friends again following the service.

Rod was born December 12, 1963 in Des Moines, IA to Ruth (Rice) and Rodger Steinkamp, Sr. He attended East High School and worked most of his career as a self-employed flooring installer. Rod was truly the definition of ornery – not only as a kid, but through his whole life! With those piercing blue eyes and questionable grin, he would try to get you to believe whatever story he was telling. He loved to tease the girls (no matter the age), tell jokes (the worse, the better), and take risks that he considered “fun”. He was the life of the party in his younger years. His friends all have stories of times with him they will never forget – whether they were having fun, getting into trouble, or both.

He shared the same spirit of life with his family. Whether in times of joy or turmoil, Rod still had a sense of humor and a caring heart. He never wanted anyone to worry about him – especially his Mother. He would handle whatever came his way in his own way.

Rod loved his children and grandchildren and looked forward to the time he could spend with them. They brought him many happy memories over the years – each in their own special way.

He also enjoyed his dogs, his work, playing Cribbage, and anything to do with Harley’s.

Rod is survived by his mother and step-father, Ruth and Dice H. Sullenberger; his sisters, Juliann Jones (Donnie Simpson) and Kim Jones; his brother, Dice A. Sullenberger; his daughters, Chrissy and Haylee Steinkamp; grandchildren, Camden, Lilly, Ashlynn and Sophia; step-children, Stephanie Bruns, Shelby Watnem and Skyler (Kala) Watnem; step-grandchildren, Garrett and Audrey; nieces, Amy, Andrea and Ashley; nephews, Alan and Joshua; great-nieces, Cynthia, Rayanna, Allison and Emily; his Godmother and great-aunt, Jean Wernimont; and many, many more aunts, uncles and cousins. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Rodger Steinkamp, Sr. also known as Dana Rodgers; and his nephew, Adam.
