Saundra Freeman, age 60, was born October 20, 1955 in Spring Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Shirley (McGuire) Blackford. She passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Newton, Iowa.

Saundra grew up on the south side of Des Moines. She attained her G.E.D. and attended secretarial classes through DMACC. She did many things during her working career including working at Heritage Cable Vision, as a dispatcher for both Polk and Warren counties, and she did some bartending. Saundra enjoyed helping her siblings and her mother in her mother’s garden and riding horses. She loved to water ski and to play backgammon and dice and card games. She enjoyed all kinds of music, was a good cook, had a sweet tooth for chocolate, and loved to camp.
Family meant everything to Saundra and she was very proud of hers and loved spending time with them. She liked to have fun and was always the life of the party. She was a caring person with a big heart and always tried to make other people feel comfortable.
She was married to her adored brother’s best friend for ten years, Richard Acri. She then married Doug Finley and they enjoyed five years together. She next married Dick Freeman and they also spent five years together. Most recently, she spent a lot of time with her companion, Jerry Smith.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Lori) Acri, Yavonda Armagost, and Jessica Freeman; siblings, Kenny Lee Blackford, Vickie (Tony) Breese, Marilyn (Butch) Nichols, and Randy (Jody) Blackford; grandchildren, Natalie, Dominick, Samuel, Maxwell, and Skylee; great-grandchildren, Josh, Caleb, and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. Saundra was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Denny and Linda Blackford.

Always remember her smile and how she could light up any room she entered. I cared for Saundra as my own family and am glad she no longer has to suffer, I can't wait to meet her again someday. Love you always, where you always called me your guardian angel I now call you mine.

To the family, Saundra made a life long impression on me, I loved her very much. As a young girl, She was the woman I looked up to in so many ways. Saundra loved deep, loved for life in so many ways and had a way of grabbing life with both hands and enjoying it. I have admired her courage and strength through hardships. Love, peace and prayers to all, especially her kids, Ricky, Yavonda and Jessica. God Bless you Saundra, fly high lady.
