Roger James Hudson

Roger James Hudson, 73, went home to his Savior on March 10, 2016. Visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Valley Community Center, 4444 Fuller Road in West Des Moines, and the funeral on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Evangelical Free Church, 4343 Fuller Road in West Des Moines, IA.

Roger was born February 13, 1943 in Des Moines, IA to Edith (Livingston) and Melvin Hudson. He graduated from East High School in 1961 and went on to Drake University where he earned his Journalism Degree in 1969 and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1972. Roger practiced law at the Hudson Law Firm in West Des Moines, IA. Roger was a member of Valley E-Free Church, Gideons, Polk County Bar Association, Iowa Bar Association, National Bar Association, and the Association of Justice. Roger was also honored as the Outstanding Law Student of 1972, listed in “Best Lawyers in America” many times, and AV Lawyer in Martindale Hubbell, among others.

In his spare time, Roger loved to travel. He participated in mission trips to Costa Rica, Australia and India, and traveled to Israel twice. A man of many interests, Roger preached at Edgewater and Legacy, enjoyed racquetball, basketball, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was a Yo-yo champion.

He is survived by his wife, Shari Hudson; children, Roger James (Sheila) Hudson, Jr., Kristin Sue (Rob) Goldman and Heather Marie (Joe) Tragesser; step-children, Ryan William (Rosie) Fitzgerald and Erin Elizabeth (Adam) Bothwell; his brother, Robert Paul Hudson; and 8 grandchildren with one on the way. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin Andrew Hudson, Mark Andrew Hudson, and Alan Dale Hudson.
