Ryan was born May 18, 1974 to Del and Sharon (Plagman) Wedemeyer. Ryan was an amazing dad and husband to his wife Jennifer and his three children. He walked in faith while on a 3 year journey with cancer. He touched the lives and hearts of everyone he met and brought many people closer in their own faith. He was beloved by his fellow workers at West Bank and was the best boss, mentor and friend a person could have. Watching his kids grow, playing golf and leading his family on fun vacations were some of Ryan’s greatest joys. Everyone knew Ryan as an avid sports fan enjoying Iowa State Cyclones, the KC Royal’s, and Dallas Cowboys. Ryan was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Throughout his career Ryan’s memberships included the Board of Directors of West Bank’s Charitable Foundation, Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, a Board Member of Broadlawns Medical Center Advocacy Circle, West Des Moines Rotary Club, Board Officer of Cambio Club, he was awarded 40 Under 40 and coached Johnston Little League.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Owen) Wedemeyer; children, Andrew, Luke and Alena Wedemeyer; his parents, Del and Sharon Wedemeyer; his sister, Jenni (Josh) Wiig; and grandmothers, Marilyn Wedemeyer and Mary Ann Plagman. Words cannot express our sadness at Ryan's passing. He fought a courageous battle with dignity. I worked with him at West Bank and was the one who nominated him for Forty Under 40, so I know he was a promising leader, a caring member of the community and a great husband and father. He will be missed.
