John you were a great friend to anyone you met. I will always remember grade school football and hockey in your backyard after your dad flooded the grass. Your dad was so kind to even give me rides to pick up my papers on his way to work in the am. You and your dad are the best--he still smoking those cigars? RIP my friend. Derek Johnson

I met John in 7th grade at Stillwell Jr. High in 1976 . He was actually making fun of me the first time we met for the way I drank from a milk carton with my pinky finger held up in the air. I think he felt bad about it afterwards and we somehow became pretty close friends since we both played football from 8 through 10th grade together. We both had similar phylosophies on life as well as struggles. I was smaller and soon realized, nobody would give you grief on or off the field if knowledgeable that John was your friend. Thanks for all the support John. You can always be my Wing Man. Brett

DM Register 1980:
(Valley Rides Balance to Metro Track Title) ... (After getting eight more points in the field events than even their coach thought they would, the Tigers stayed just out of Dowling's reach the rest of the afternoon ... McVicker wasn't complaining about the team's field effort ... "we had a shot put over 50 feet for second (by) John Brewbaker.")
Thanks "Brew." Great throw on a big day.
