Ilene Belieu, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 21, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ilene enjoyed crocheting, spending time on the lake with her family and vacationing in Florida during the winter months. Ilene was famous for owning and operating Ilene’s Sweet Shop on the south side.

Ilene is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Dale; children, Linda Simmons, Dale Belieu, Jr., Mary Belieu, and Vicky (Dennis) Oliver; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Picray and Yvonne Senger; and brother, Nick Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her children, Leo and Diana; parents, Ralph Stephenson and Margaret Bishop; sister, Evelyn Lyons; and brothers, Robert Stephenson and Ralph Stephenson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with visitation of friends and family two hours prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Ilene.
