Tom Smith, 66, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
Tom was born February 2, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the Marine Corps and worked as a carpet layer for many years. He loved working, going to races and concerts, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his girlfriend and best friend Pam Thoren; children: Tom Smith, Tammy Smith, Denise (Jim) Smith, Tonya Smith, and Tim (Becky) Smith; step-children: Tim Hall, Melissa Blodgett, Mindy Collins, Michelle Baker, and Billy Hildebrand; grandchildren: Scott Ogden, Miranda Craven, Tim Smith Jr., Kyle Marquis, Kyla Smith, Michael Smith, Daniel Ogden, Nate Ogden, Destiney Ogden, and Travis Hill; three great-grandchildren; and siblings: John (Judy) Smith, Betty (Jeff) Heidebrink, Bob (Kim) Smith, and Vern Smith III.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Betty Smith, sister Vera Kalsem, and wife Norma Smith.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., with funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will be held at a later date.

You always tried to be there for everyone, even when you were sick! You are loved more than you ever knew by John and I. Thank you for being there for us when we needed you, as we tried to be for you. Miss you so much already, We will see you again one day, until then, Rest In Peace!
