Service Details

James Raymond Scieszinski, 60, died April 6, 2015. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 3:30 at Hamilton's in West Des Moines, 3601 Westown Parkway, with visitation prior to the service from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

James was born October 12, 1954 in Centerville, IA to Robert and Wilma (Overturf) Scieszinski. He attended Dowling High School and after graduation he enrolled in Brown College Broadcasting program, where he became a radio announcer. He spent most of his career in the radio broadcasting industry, first on the air as Jim Roberts, and later in sales as "JR". After spending a few years in Florida, he eventually made his way back to Iowa where he lived until his death.

Jim loved his friends and his family and was usually the life of the party. He was often asked to MC public and private events. Jim's proudest moment was when he lived in Yankton, South Dakota and used his skills to lead a major fundraiser to help a young boy who needed a kidney transplant. Always the showman, Jim loved the stage and making everyone laugh. Music was an integral part of his life, too, and he often worked parties and events as a DJ. He knew all the tunes and most of the lyrics, often breaking out in his own version of song lyrics for the entertainment of those around him. Jim loved to play golf and was most happy when he could beat on that little white ball out in the open air with his good friend Rick Davis. We'll miss his easy smile, his quick wit, his teasing, and his love for those around him.

Jim is survived by his parents, Robert and Wilma Scieszinski; siblings, Robert (Patricia) Scieszinski, David Scieszinski, Deborah Wilson, Douglas (Laurie) Scieszinski; his nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rick and Lorraine Davis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family for designation later. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Jim, rest easy now. We will remember you always.
