Norma P. Beerman

Norma P. Beerman, 102, passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 at home with her family at her side. She was born on December 29, 1912 in Newell, Iowa to Matt and Mary Nelsen. She lived for much of her youth in Spencer, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1930. She was a graduate with honors of both AIB and Buena Vista College. Determined to follow her dream of teaching, she spent her working years as a teacher in schools around her and her husband Harold’s home in Ventura, Iowa.

Upon retirement she moved to Clive to be near her family. She was a passionate volunteer for local causes, including Living History Farms, Johnston Middle School, the State Historical Society, the Parks and Recreation Board, and many others. She refused to sit still if she could be contributing to her community. She loved learning, and was an inspiration to others. She was devout in her love of nature and animals, and resolute in her desire to protect the vulnerable.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Meta; and her loving husband, Harold. She is survived by her children, Mary Bramer and Mark Beerman both of Clive; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Matthew Beerman.
