George Close

George N. Close, 85, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
George was born November 11, 1929 in Des Moines to William and Lulu Close and was a lifelong “Southsider”. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and later served in the Iowa Army National Guard. George retired from the Des Moines Fire Department after 31 years of service. He was a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church
George is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters, Pamela (Steve Pallardy) Close, Linda (Jim) Mason, Kristy (Karl) Williams and Dianne (Tony) Merrill; step-children, Rosemary (Jerry) Kobrock and Debbie Gilmore; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Morris; and a host of other loving relatives and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Close; step-son, David Swigart; two grandchildren; and his parents, William and Lulu (Mason) Close.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Willow Creek Baptist Church, 720 Army Post Road, West Des Moines followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Memorial Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mary Lou - We just learned of George's death. Our condolences to you and all of the family. You and I have shared so much over the years, I wish I could be there with you now. But we both know he is at peace with our Lord. I will call you later.

Linda, Thoughts and prayers to you and the Close family. I remember spending the night at your home in our younger days and your dad was so kind to me. I will always remember that.
