Service Details
Doris Irene Brockett, 91, passed away December 22, 2014. Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. Family will greet guests at 10 a.m. Doris generously donated her body to the University of Iowa to help others.
She was born in Des Moines, IA on May 24, 1923 to Alice (Waters) and Christ Julius Norem. Doris married married Paul Brockett on April 5, 1942 in Des Moines. Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. She was an avid bridge player and golfer.
She is survived by her children, Sue (Larry) Nelson, Steve (Kathleen) Brockett, and Scott (Bobbi) Brockett; grandchildren, Brad (Crishelle) Nelson, Lisa (Chad) Rankin, Chrissy (Tyler) Johnson, Todd Brockett, Jeff Brockett, Kara (Lee) Trotman, and Shari, Kurt, Kelsey and Kendall Brockett; great-grandchildren, Brockett Nelson, Libbey and Levi Rankin, Emmylou and Clementine Johnson; her sister, Jean Reed; brother, Don (Shirley) Norem and sister in law, Nadine Norem.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Marjorie Brockett, and Ken and Joseph Norem.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staffs of Calvin Community and Hospice of Central Iowa.

Dear Sue, Steve & Scott, Your dear parents served as a genuine source of encouragement to me as a young lad growing up. I thank God for the both of them being such a positive influence in my life. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 116: 15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord are the death of his godly ones." May God be your source of comfort as you move through the grieving process. Dear Sue and family,
I am so sorry for your loss, your Mom was a bright spot in my childhood and her kindness has stayed with me always. Sweet pickle and peanut butter sandwiches will always be a favorite memory as well as the woman who taught me how to make them.

Dear Brockett Family, I am SO truly blessed for having had Doris in my life. She was indeed the epitome of a loving sweet soul!! She was the most caring precious jewel, and I will miss her! This time is bittersweet as we hate to say goodbye to her here on this earth, but, joyous in the fact that she is face-to-face with Jesus and reunited with Paul. Thank you for sharing her with me!
