Our beloved mother, Betty J. Jahnke, 92, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
Betty was born September 10, 1922, the daughter of William and Helen (Monroe) Marsh. She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She served as the President of the Parish Council and taught Religious Education. Betty worked in the Des Moines Public School System as a teacher’s associate for many years.
Betty was a wonderful wife and a loving and compassionate mother and grandmother. She put her family first and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Betty looked forward to family gatherings and always made time to attend her grandchildren’s various activities. She loved playing cards, cooking, baking and was a Cubs baseball fan.
Betty is survived by her children, Richard (Pat), Paula (Les) Hildebrand, Michael (Ellen), Patty Jahnke, Mary (Jeff) Richards, Bill (LaRetta) and Joe (Martha); grandchildren, Ron, Jeff, Heather, Tim, Joe, Jamie, Chris, Zachary, Bryce, Corey, Jennifer, Amanda, Ben, Claire, Will and Cole; great-grandchildren, Keary, Drew, Calleigh, Addison, Jacob, Chloe, Haley, Alura, Elizabeth, Gracie, Nicholas, Jack, Hunter, Savannah, Camden, Lily and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest F. Jahnke, granddaughter, Melissa Smith, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 14, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Our Lady of the Americas (Visitation) Catholic Church, 1271 E 9th St, Des Moines with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Patty and Mary,
I am so sorry to hear of your dear mother's death. I know how close you were to her and how much you will miss her. What a lovely person. How fortunate to have had her for so long. My dad turned 94 Friday. I understand how precious each moment is with our parents. My love and prayers are with you.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Betty's passing. She was such a warm and gentle person. Always so kind to our family!! She was one of the first of the "in-laws" that I met outside of Joe's immediate family, so many years ago. She always made me feel welcome. She will be dearly missed.
