Richard A. Boettcher, 73, was born September 23, 1941, to Clarence and Cora Boettcher in Kossuth County, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Altoona on Monday November 3, 2014.

Richard served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1966. After 30 years of service with IBM as a field engineer, he retired in 1996. Richard enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Richard was a talented woodworker who made confirmation crosses for many years along with a large cross for the church. He was known for making dozens of Noah’s Arks throughout the years for his wife’s collection

Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharilynne (Hamlin) Boettcher; children, Michelle Boettcher, Erik Boettcher, and Kirk (Jared Saks) Boettcher; grandchildren, Alison, Gage, Catherine, and Sarah; his loving dog, Cowboy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and beloved friends who were very dear to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Eldean, DeVere, and Paul.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd Street in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street, in Altoona.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or Puppy Jake Foundation in loving memory of Richard.
