Service Details
Nelda Lee (West) Knapp was born July 19, 1926 in Colfax, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Edna (Lusk) West. She passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 at her home in Pleasant Hill, Iowa at the age of 88.
Services will be held Friday, November 7, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Family will begin greeting friends at 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to start at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Nelda owned Terrace Roller Rink at its original location at 24th & Hickman and after it moved to 56th & Hubbell in Altoona. She was founder and president of the Animal Protection Society of Iowa and worked as the receptionist for Ramsey Nursing Home for fifteen years, retiring only three years ago.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Dorrie Bales and Donald Luncsford Jr.; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Knapp; daughter, Shirley Foley; grandson, Russell Luncsford; and great-grandson, Donald Eugene Luncsford III.

This women took my money, helped get me soda's,she made sure I stayed in line, and helped shape my life. I will always remember her and my skating years

Nelda will be missed and I loved that woman, I was one of your caretakers, We had many talks and loved to eat choc icecream, She was so proud of granddaughter Dorrie she did a great job taking care of Nelda My prayers are with the family

The Terrace Roller rink her and Russ ran for so many years, was a home away from home for a lot of us back in the day, they ran such a good business, and she was not afraid to make you sit down and not skate for a few minutes if you were acting out, she will be missed, a great person.
