Larry Lee Davisson

Larry Lee Davisson, 73, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by his family. Larry was born on June 29, 1941 in rural Libertyville, IA to Walter and Nellie Davisson. He attended Des Moines #5 Country School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959. He went to TCU in Fort Worth, TX then joined the Air Force and served as an Airman First Class in Vietnam. After returning to Iowa, he graduated from AIB with a business degree where he met the love of his life, Aleyna Prull.
Larry and Aleyna were married on May 15, 1966 at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. The couple moved to Sacramento, CA where they lived for 12 years before returning to Iowa in 1978. Larry worked various jobs but retired from Fed Ex in 2012 after 26 years. He enjoyed reading, riding his bike on many trails, and watching the Cyclones and Hawkeyes. He especially loved spending time with his 7 grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Aleyna; son, Erik (Donna) Davisson and their children Luke, Derek, Leah, and Alyssa of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Staci (David) Kraemer and their children Madison, Lauren, and Makenzie of Fairfield, IA; his siblings, Elaine (Ken) Carr of Greenville, SC, Helen (Gordon) Nicks of Annandale, VA, Janice (Bob) Bannister of Des Moines, IA, and Bill (Sue) Davisson of Bloomington, IL; along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Nellie Davisson.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Per his wishes, Larry has been cremated and his ashes will be buried at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church youth program. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
The family would like to thank the nurses on Powell 3 and North 6 at IMMC, John Stoddard Cancer Center, and Dr. Dan Buroker and staff for their wonderful care of Larry.

Janice, I am so sorry to read of Larry's death. I did not know him but knowing you tells me he was a man of character, compassion, sincerity and always a loving father and mentor for many.

My Heart and prayers go out to the Davisson family with the loss of a very dear, kind friend and co-worker. Larry and I worked together at Fedex for many years and I always loved working with him. He was a very kind soft spoken man..and so funny..We will all miss him dearly...I had to pleasure of meeting his great family and working with his son Eric also...Thinking of you all at this time of sadness! Larry was not only my brother-in-law, but a friend as well. I knew him as a very kind and loving man. I will miss him greatly. May God comfort you Aleyna, and your family.

It's such a shock to me that this has happened. I always think of Larry on his bike or walking on Marshall Street...always being active. I have been thinking of you all and hope there is some comfort in knowing he is not suffering and that you will see him again. Hugs.
