Eleanor Wong, 59, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 6th following a long struggle with health problems. She was born on February 11, 1955 to Gim How Mah (her mother) and Gan Hong Wong (her father). She was the 6th of what would ultimately be 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys. Eleanor attended North High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1973. Her great passion in life became her music, which she studied at Simpson College in Indianola, receiving her bachelor’s degree. Over the years she would perform at Des Moines Metropolitan Opera at Simpson, under the tutelage of her beloved mentor Dr. Robert Larson, Director. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from The University of Texas in Austin. Eleanor taught music and voice at Briarcliff College in Sioux City Iowa and DMACC in Ankeny. She was also a substitute teacher in the Des Moines and West Des Moines School Districts. Although she never had children of her own, she had great love for her three nieces and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father and sister Mary. She is survived by Sisters Sue (Gilles)Parbeau of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Linda Wong of Des Moines, and brothers Bill Wong of Elk Grove, California, Jim Wong of Troy, Michigan and Frank and Ed (Kris)Wong of Des Moines. No service is planned at this time.
