Hiem Cavan

In loving memory of Hiem Cavan, born in Sonla, Vietnam, August 23, 1924 – June 9, 2014. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A pillar of the community, who spent her life performing blessings to newly married couples, those who became ill, and newborns. She was the strength and beating heart of our family. Hiem loved to garden and sew. She was a member of Des Moines Mennonite Church. She spent all her time with her family, making all of us laugh and providing us with wisdom and strength. Her beauty was truly her unconditional love and deeply caring nature.

She is survived by her four daughters: La Baccam, Vieng Inthalangsy (Oulom), Pheun Cavan, Phin Cavan (Ott); 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Toune Cavan; brother, Hom Kavan; and son-in-law, Reverend Ha Baccam.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
