Duane J. St. Cyr

Duane J. St. Cyr, 66, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from respiratory failure. He was born March 2, 1948 to Florence and Alex St. Cyr in Escanaba, Michigan.

Duane is a graduate of Holy Name High School. In 1971, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from California College of Mortuary Science. By the age of 26 years, he was the owner and operator of Conrad and Comer Mortuary in Oxnard, California. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and involved in numerous other service organizations in Ventura County, California. Duane later moved to the Midwest and began a career in sales that spanned 25 years.

His hobbies included spending time on Lake Michigan, golfing, fishing in Canada, and enjoying his grandchildren. Duane also had a lifelong love for animals.

He is survived by his wife Mary of 46 years; his daughters, Kim (Dave) Crowell and Kerry (Kevin) Harrington; his grandchildren: Taylor and Hailey Crowell, and Charlie and Piper Harrington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don; and sisters: Lou, Tess, and Joanette.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League (ARL) or St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, California.
