Service Details
Alice (Thompson) Kirby, 83, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Union Park Health Service. A private family graveside service will be held.
Alice was born March 11, 1931. She was a lifelong Des Moines resident and had been a long time employee of Mercy Medical Center and Iowa Methodist.
Alice is survived by her children, Tina (Bill) Brommel and Billy Thompson; siblings, Violet Keniny and Delbert Witt; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Verle Thompson and Tommy Kirby; and her sons, Verle, Jr., Boyd and Jack Thompson.

I am very sorry to see that Grandma Alice has passed away. I wish I could have visited her as much as I thought about her, which was all the time. She was very dear to me and I loved her very much. I am sorry for your loss.

We met Alice at Union Park where Sally's Mother also resides. She sat at the dinner table with Sally's mom and was very quiet at first but really took to Jack whenever he would stop in and say hello while visiting Sally's mother. He would give her a hug and she looked forward to him stopping and seeing her and getting another hug. We are saddened to know that she has passed as we talked with her on Wed. and she made us sad because she could not get over her pneumonia and was very sad about this. God Bless her, she is a sweet woman and we will think about her for a long time to come.

Tina, my sincere sympathy at the loss of your mother. Alice lived across the hall from me at Southridge Village. We discovered that her brother, Delbert Witt, is my brother-in-law.
Small world! I visited her several times at the nursing home, but for the past two months I have been recovering from a fractured pelvis and was unable to get there. I always brought a bag of little Milky Way candy bars for her sweet tooth. She doled out one a day to herself.
